There's often a fine line between reading too deeply and being perceptive. Where do we draw it? And even if we were to acknowledge every situation has a different answer...does that necessarily clarify where?

I grew up watching the surreal rendition of the China's most treasured cultural aspects. To me martial arts wasn't just mysticism with its own fantastical and unreal physical rules. It wasn't just the crazy and elegant motions that were both fighting and dance. It was a representing principle of the Chinese culture. Potent and entrancing, it harbored the very depth of Chinese tradition and Chinese ideology. The precincts of duty, honor order, and wisdom flowed through the winded shift of a palm or the sudden snap of a fist. In the martial there was the art. In the practical necessities of self defense out flowed the idyllic philosophies of life. The violent nature of combat synchronized with the tranquility of omniscient understanding; the quailing power of the fist to be matched by the pacifying force of words. In the training of the body one would nourish the soul and harden the mind. Through discipline one would find patience. Through patience one would find understanding. Through understanding one would find wisdom. From wisdom would come honor. From honor would come duty. From duty would arise order. Such was the Chinese belief of universal balance--the unity of Heaven and Earth, Yin and Yang; the paradoxical coexistence of opposing principles.

Hrmm...it seems life just loves throwing conflicted interests at people. Just a thought.
